It’s Past Time for Conservatives to Fight Back!
It is high time we stop the left’s continued assaults on the God, Christians, the unborn, and American individual freedom. We have let it go on for way too long already. We are endangered to tyranny by the minority.
According to the Christian Calendar, Good Friday fell on April 18 this year. On this day, we Christians believe that Jesus Christ was crucified on the cross in Jerusalem on trumped-up charges of blasphemy. We believe that in his uncompromising death, Christ confronted all sins of mankind for all times into the fires of hell, after which he returned to life three days later, culminating in the beautiful holiday of Easter Sunday. He sacrificed himself so that we fallible human beings could be one with our God. There should be no doubt that for God to sacrifice his only son to such horrible agony simply to give us redemption and peace demonstrates we mortal sinners have a loving and caring Father in Heaven. To know Christ as our risen Savior and the Son of God, seated at the right hand of the Father, is something that I accept without a second thought. When I look at the world around us, including all that is good and evil, it becomes clear that too many fragilities which allow the earth to support life and allows us to thrive cannot be the result of simple “accidents” over the millennia. If we all look really carefully at every circumstance that is “accidental,” we can really see the guiding hand of God’s involvement. Despite this, it is unfortunate that so many people on the left continue to pursue an ideology of anti-Christ (and therefore anti-Christian) secularism, attempting to take God out of everything they can possibly influence. If we allow these radicals of the left to succeed in their endeavor, the blessings that God has endowed on our nation will eventually go the way of Sodom and Gomorrah. We will deserve what we get for our passiveness. I have absolutely no formal training in religious faith, nor do I pretend to be holier than anyone reading this column. In fact, I have done enough stupid things in my own life that could be considered almost sac-religious. I did my share of keg parties in college, along with skipping church so I could sleep in. I have withdrawn more than my share of integrity points from God’s bank to the point where I probably owe interest on my account. I am the last person that should preach to anyone about anything remotely religious because my religious faith is borne only of my negative and positive life experiences and nothing more. However, life is a journey we all take which includes a series of experiences defining who each of us are. Why then, wouldn't my own experiences be enough to draw upon for wondering aloud how liberals can be such willing accomplices in countering God’s intended plan for each of us? Perhaps these experiences alone are not enough, however, I am going to attempt it anyway. My reflection of my faith in God and the left’s contempt for him stems from a personal event in my life that was momentous this past Good Friday. After many frustrating years in which we spent thousands of dollars and emotional sanity on medical options to have children, my wife and I were blessed with our second and third. We had beautiful, healthy fraternal twin boys. Their older sister, aged 5 and a miracle in her own right as a result of yet another medical process we endured to conceive her, was very excited to be a big sister. For the past three years our daughter has continually prayed each night, as only a child can do, to ask God to give here a sibling she can share her childhood with. The arrival of our twins, in addition with their sister’s birth in 1998, has provided me with all the visual proof I need of God working in my life. My family’s prayers were answered! With my twin’s arrival reenergizing my faith, I have spent some time refocusing on what I believe to be most important in my life. I know that putting God, then my family and then everything else into perspective has allowed me to become more astute in prioritizing the important things. In a way, I have experienced an awakening that others call a midlife crisis. However, the only crisis is when we do not try to learn from the experience to see what is important and focus our energy in a productive manner. One of the things I have come to believe as very important is the protection of unborn children. After seeing my daughter’s first heartbeat during my wife’s first ultrasound, just one month after my daughter’s conception, I realized that I was looking at the heartbeat of a new life forming in the womb. That little heartbeat showed up so vividly and gave me an epiphany of sorts. I realized that I was literally looking at my new child. Although she was only as large as a grain of rice, her heart and circulatory system were already functioning. There was no doubt in my mind that this little life was a total human being and a miracle from God. The left uses Orwellian language to hide such annoyances as unborn children. They use words such as “fetus”, “termination,” and “choice” when trying to justify why this “thing” should not create such an inconvenience for a woman. By de-humanizing the living child within the womb with words such as “fetus,” groups such as the National Organization for Women can lobby for tax-supported legislation to give a woman the eternal right to “choose.” Groups such as NOW view suspiciously any language that might create an impression that a “fetus” is actually an unborn child at conception. Using the term “fetus” is what allows NOW to happily condone partial-birth infanticide. Because an eight or even nine-month-old baby is yet unborn until completely out of the womb, NOW would say that it is perfectly natural and should be legal for a doctor to use a vacuum-like instrument to literally penetrate the baby’s skull and suck out the brains
(and life) of the “fetus.” After all, if the fetus is not yet out of the womb, then it cannot be called a child at all. Of course, the “fetus” feels the agony and pain of such a "termination." To NOW, there is no such thing as an unborn child, only fetuses and amoebas that can be “terminated” at any time. Amazing that as soon as the head completely clears the womb, only then does NOW recognize the “fetus” as a "completed" baby capable of feeling pain. NOW would like nothing better than to see the state sanction such infanticide so that women can gain enjoy casual sex without having to pay for the consequences. You would think this is bad enough, but last week it got even worse. Marva Stark, head of the Morris County, N.J., chapter of NOW, made a public statement of her outrage and outright objection to the double-homicide charges Scott Peterson faces in the murders of his wife, Laci, and their eight-month-old unborn child. Incidentally, the “fetus” already had been named Connor by the couple. To Marva Stark and NOW, it is ironic that one could name a “fetus” anything. Since in Stark’s worldview Connor was nothing but a “fetus,” she contended that Connor had no rights whatsoever and could not warrant a charge of murder by his termination. Stark speculated to the Daily Record in an interview by arguing,” Was it born, or was it unborn? If it was unborn, then I can’t see charging (Peterson) with double murder.” Although a few days later the vice president from NOW’s national organization influenced Stark to retract her statement, NOW would not state whether or not it supports or opposes infanticide under the guise of “choice.” It appears even a brutal murder of a pregnant wife and an unborn child cannot change the vicious agenda of NOW. Subsidized infanticide is a right for women to have a “choice” in their view. Not a “God-given” choice, as God would not support such a brutal practice. But if Hollywood and the likes of Ted Kennedy are for it, then it must be a viable right. What about each unborn child? What rights do they have? Where is their choice? They did not request conception as the result of an unwanted pregnancy. Why must they pay the price for those who enjoy casual sex without consequences? Why must they be the political pawn of the “pro-choice” camp? Conception is the beginning of life, whether scientifically proven or not. Every single existing idea or molecule had a beginning, or conception. Life is no different. When you see the heart beating in a month-old unborn child, you would have to be made of stone to deny that a new life has started. However, when groups such as NOW continue to deny the God-given gift of life, choosing instead to sympathize with an alleged and seemingly unremorseful murderer, we endanger and devalue human life in general. We deny what God has given, instead destroying his gift. In essence, we deny what God has given us. Had she been present on Good Friday, Marva Stark would have told me right up to 4:30 PM that we had two 37-week-old “fetuses.” There would still be time to reconsider and terminate. At 4:40 PM, she would have told me we now have one living baby but can still choose not to have two if we just use our “right of choice” on the second “fetus.” But after 5:50 PM, even she would have to admit that the second "fetus" was not able to be “terminated” anymore because the second baby's head had become visible from the womb. Only now, in Ms. Stark’s opinion, do these two babies have rights that did not exist only an hour or two earlier. This includes their basic right to live. Marva Stark and all the supporters of NOW ought to think hard and ask of themselves what their opinion of this issue would be if it were they on the receiving end of the abortion rights debate. Marva’s mother might have made a “choice” to “terminate” Marva as a “fetus” many years back, but valued the child within. My belief is that Ms. Starks would have a radically different point of view about this issue under this circumstance. It is too bad that Ms Starks and most of her supporters on the left cannot seem to grasp this reality. Finally, whoever turns out to have murdered Laci Peterson and her unborn child, Connor, deserves to be charged fully for double-homicide and receive the harshest of sentences. NOW needs to be careful not to condone infanticide as legitimate or it risks losing what little support the group enjoys with the majority of Americans. Ms. Starks statement in this very case shows just how out of touch NOW, and radical liberals in general, really are.
